The One Jumping Back In

*peeks in* Hey... anyone still here? Sorry again to disappear on you! I'm feeling much better about things now that I'm in a good place with my revisions (good place = finishing the bigger changes). Now I'm just waiting for some reader feedback and I'm going through it a few more times to try to cut down the word count and streamline the middle hunk into something that isn't saggy or soggy or slumpy. (Clearly I have been alone inside of my head for too long.)

I used the bulk of my Memorial Day Weekend to push through them which basically consisted of me sitting alone in my room, surrounded by empty Mountain Dew bottles, listening to Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes, and thinking thoughts like, "If I were to die of exhaustion in here, how long would it take for one of my roommates to notice the stench of my decomposing body?" So, AWESOME.

Between our sad parting and our joyous reunion, a couple of awesome things happened:

BEA! I had my first BEA signing and after arriving a wee bit late (Valuable life lesson: you cannot get a taxi in NYC at 9 AM), it was a total blast. Thank you SO much for everyone who came out to say hi! I signed the entire time which I think is thanks in part to be at the table next to Sarah Dessen. Speaking of Sarah Dessen, that Whoopie Pie truck was some kind of marketing genius. Well done, everyone!

I also got to hang out with my agent for a big AND meet the people responsible for Black is the Color landing at 20th Century Fox. Basically, I hug-attacked them. AND LET THE RECORD SHOW I WOULD TOTALLY DO IT AGAIN BECAUSE THEY ARE AWESOME.

What else, what else... I started choking in Chipotle, but I'm not sure you want to hear about that. I also had my first real Summer Friday off this week and went shopping at Zara AND found a pair of white jeans that don't make me feel like I'm wearing a karate gi, AND I accidentally stumbled into Filene's during The Running of the Brides and it was every bit as terrifying and magical as I thought it was going to be.

Oh! Today I got dolled up (Lilly Pulitzer dress + pearls = "dolled up," as opposed to "fancy" = normal dress + high heels) and took the ferry out to Governor's Island to watch a free polo match and drink champagne. I know, right? We were really terrified it was going to rain, but the weather held out and was actually very cool and blissful. I'm maybe 96% convinced that the only reason my friend Teresa suggested we go is because she wanted some event to justify buying this incredible hat while she was in England a few weeks ago. I mean, look at it:

You can't even see the fancy white bits! I felt like Lady Alexandra Fancypants of the Arizonan Fancypantses just sitting next to her. It was such a queenly hat that a photographer asked if she could stick this model she was shooting in between us so we could pretend to fake cheer with her.

Anyway, I'm back! I'll try to be around a little more often, though I can't promise much. ALA's Annual conference is fast-approaching...
